Hump Day

Hump Day is always the hardest. Especially when it rains. I'm not just talking about a constant rain. It POURED today. Good thing I brought my umbrella.

I am beginning to REALLY like my English sub. She is fun too, just in her own subtle way. I will miss her when she is gone. She challenges you to go as far as you can and get as much done in the time allotted. Unlike many of the teachers that just give you the answers she wants you to think. Why couldn't my other teachers have been more like this?

My day was going great today. I had finished up all my homework before I left the class room, and my team had won the game in Government. Just by one point, but thats all it takes to win. All my notes had been copied during my free time in English. All I had left was Geometry. Geometry went great too. I was sailing through the lessons. Comprehending quickly and getting the answers right. I only needed to do one thing before I hit my goal.

Then I hit a snag. I had a quiz I had to do. It was 5 minutes before my ride was to show up. I thought I could take it home. I couldn't...I had to do it then. I really couldn't say that I didn't have time because she just scrounged around for several minutes trying to find it. So I did it anyways. I made my ride wait about ten minutes for me. They didn't seem to mind, but I hate doing that to them. They don't have to take me to class, it is a favor really.

Goodnight all!

Second Monday

Today was the first day of my second week at school. It was a little harder getting out of bed this morning then I remember it being last week. Wonder why?

My homework today consists of:
  • Finishing up class work from English 1
  • Writing two journals for English 1
  • Copying Government notes
  • Watch the Democratic Convention and write a paper for extra credit in Government.

I finished most of it. I am waiting right now for the Convention to start. I am not quite sure what part of the convention I will write about. My English teacher is at the convention. I am hoping to see my teacher on TV.

Seeing as my English teacher is gone we have a sub this week. I am so glad I was able to end up with the original teacher and not this sub for the 8 weeks. She is not mean, just very strict. Everything for her must be done in pen. Her requirements for the journals are very strict. She wants a very orderly class room. There is nothing wrong with those things but I enjoy the other teachers perspective better.

Now, the difficulty with watching the Convention, when does it start? There is plenty of other pre-convention stuff that makes it hard to find out when exactly the CONVENTION starts. Why must every big event, weather it is a political thing, a ball game, or a race does it have to have so much stuff before it actually start? Can't we just give the time the specific event starts?

Anyways, sorry, didn't want to turn this into a political rant!

Okay, guys sorry for the few days of silence. I thought I would be able to post yesterday but it was so busy I just didn't have time! I am getting ready to go to bed but I thought I would give you a few stories of the things that have gone on the past two days.

First of all I was sitting there Wednesday night and realized that there was something written on my right elbow. Keep in mind that I am right handed. So I looked at it curiously. Apparently after I had written something on my paper with my pen I leaned on it and it is now imprinted on my elbow. I tried to read it, but it was too smudged. :( would have been interesting to see what was written there.

Today in English we had something kinda funny happen. We did a work sheet for practice. After we had swapped our papers to see if the other person agreed or disagreed with our answers and swapped back, we were talking about the differences. Every difference I had put on the person's paper I had looked at were right. Everyone she had marked different on mine were wrong. There was another student that had asked her to correct his sheet. She looked up at him with this egzasperated (is that how you spell that? if not can someone leave a comment telling me HOW to spell that word?) and asked "Are you sure you want me to check your paper?" We all had to laugh or at least snicker about it. Just one of those things that make the day fun.

OH! I will say this. I did not realize how much paper work is required in putting one person through school until this past week. I also did not know one person could be bounced back and forth between two different places so much! Good grief! Want to cut the government budget? You could save a bundle on the paper and ink!

After having to finagle my way into Geometry I am finally in and learning. I am enjoying it! I hope I can finish it in the next, 7 weeks now!

Day 1

Hi guys! I just survived my first day of school!

My class load some would consider light. Three classes which consist of American Government, English, and by the end of the week, Geometry. What you have to remember is that these classes are two hours long. (We do get a ten minute break an hour into the class.) So it is slightly more than it sounds.

Government is my first class. My teacher sounds like he is going to be fun. He appears to be laid back. That can be nice but that can also cause problems. Nice because I find it is easier to learn from someone who is laid back. The problem may come in with discipline. There seems to be some rebellious or spirited students. I am not really surprised just waiting patiently to see where it goes.

Lunch is next. Thirty five minutes of freedom you could say. I am able to eat with a friend of mine, for which I am thankful. Always nice to see a friendly face in a new place.

English is one subject I have never been good at. I am really looking forward to this class though. The teacher is so down to earth. She also doesn't want us to be fact spewing machines. She wants us to be able to apply our knowledge to other areas. I learned that she is also a Democrat. (She is going to the Democrat National Convention next week.) She is not one to push you to vote for one person or the other. She just wants you to vote. To be part of the government system that runs our country. I like this class too because there is only about 10 students.

Geometry, well that will be my last class. I have to register for that class tomorrow. It is a computer class so I will be working at my own pace. Here's hoping that the computer program likes me.

What I learned:
  • It takes less than five minutes to speed walk from lunch to English
  • My class schedule for the next 8 weeks.
  • Be on time or it will really hurt you down the road
  • Schools have a lot of paperwork and protocols.

First day of school

Hi, I would like to introduce myself. I am Book Worm. I am an adult who for the first time is going to school. You may be wondering how that can be. I have done school before but never GONE to school to do the work. I will be starting for the first time on August 18th 2008. I plan to tell my stories here. Feel free to comment or ask questions.

I am collecting my supplies now and buying books. Who knew text books could cost as much as a nice MP3 player? Mine were the cheap ones too! At least pencils, pens, paper and three ringed binders are still inexpensive. There is some very cool stylish supplies out there. I find my inner kid coming out. Why can't I have psychedelic pens, notebooks, and folders? Okay, maybe those weird looks from my fellow class mates is a good enough reason.

I hope you all enjoy this blog as it gets going. :)
